The Appalachians is a region that is located Newfoundland,a small part of Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and P.E.I. The region is made up of Sedimentary Rock, the regions characteristics is full of mountains, plateaus and hills. The land if covered by mixed coniferous and deciduous trees with a greater concentration of coniferous trees in cooler northern locations. Trees such as hickory, oak, maple, and beech, white spruce, balsam fir and feather moss. Dry areas have red oak, red pine and white pine and wet areas by red maple, white cedar and black ash. Some fruit and other small trees and shrubs blueberries, black huckleberry, teaberry, bryophytes(mosses and liverworts) and species of fungi. The soil is extremely fertile due to the large amount of precipitation the region receives. There are two main resources which are Mining and logging. Logging is a good economic resource as the region is full with trees, Mining is also a good economic resource with big mountains filled with non-metallic minerals, coal, iron, and zinc. The climate of the Appalachian Mountains has very wide temperature variations between summer, winter. The region receives lots of precipitation and snow due to the dense forest. Although mining is huge in the Appalachians there is huge impacts to the mountains since they are using heavy machinery to be able to get the minerals needed, the pollution created by the machinery affects the plants and the people who are also working there.
